Climate Chaos

Manchester Oxfam Campaigns group is concerned over climate change. People living in developing countries are at the front line of climate-related disasters, making them more vulnerable to its impacts than anyone else, whilst being the least responsible for the advent of temperature and environmental change.

To avoid serious catastrophic disaster, radical change must be implemented which will restructure the manner in which our daily living accesses energy needs. Combating global climate change is a major element in overcoming worldwide poverty.

Control Arms Campaign

Control Arms is an international campaign that was started in 2003 by Oxfam, Amnesty International and the International Action Network on Small Arms (IANSA). As campaigners we want to see tighter regulations on the arms trade through the introduction of an International Arms Trade Treaty that will ban the sales of arms to countries and regimes where they are used to fuel conflict and violence, to rape, torture and kill and to violate people’s human rights.

Health & Education

The principle behind Oxfam’s basic health programme covers the following four broad issues: basic health services, affordability and availability of medicines, water and sanitation, and a response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

Make Trade Fair

Make Trade Fair is an Oxfam campaign that campaigns for change for farmers and producers in developing countries. It calls on governments to lift the trade barriers, which presently means that people in poor countries cannot trade their goods for a fair price. We are calling for an end to unfair trade subsidies and ‘dumping’, which means that countries such as the US and UK flood developing countries markets with cheap imports at prices that poor farmers cannot compete with and which means that millions people are literally locked into poverty.

Manchester Oxfam Campaigns Group MDG Challenge!

2010 is a big year - cos it's 10 years after the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) were agreed which means there's just 5 years to do a few small things like:
- end poverty and hunger
- achieve environmenal sustainability
- combat HIV/AIDs and infectious diseases
As promised by our world leaders in 2000!
